Shirvan Carpets

Shirvan carpets—sometimes also transliterated as Sharvan, Shirwan, Sjirvan, Servan etc.—are carpets whose design originates from the historical Shirvan region in today’s Azerbaijan Republic. Traditionally, these handmade carpets are manufactured entirely in wool and feature a high knot count and tight patterns. Common motifs are the eightpointed star and the mir-e-buteh (“noble plant”); moreover, many Shirvan carpets also feature stylized animals and humans.

At El Kahhal Carpets we stock a large number of handmade Shirvan rugs in various sizes—both produced locally in one of our workshops in Cairo and sourced from our trusted partners in India, Iran, Pakistan, and Turkey.

The gallery below provides but a glimpse of our wide selection of handmade Shirvan carpets available in our showrooms in the Khan al-Khalili and in Heliopolis.
